Langkawi, Malaysia is a massive island known for its beaches. It is a great area for diving, swimming, water sports adventures and enjoying the excellent night life. Apart from the beaches, this well-loved tourist spot boasts of expansive parks, scenic landscapes and great food.
The best way to get around the island is by a rented vehicle. Besides Datai Bay, Tanjung Rhu and Pantai Cenang beaches, there are other attractions in Langkawi that you must visit. Here are some of them:
- Langkawi Sky Bridge
This famed tourist spot is located just at the end of the Cable Car ride. It is considered to be one of the island’s highlights because of its 410 feet long curved pedestrian bridge just above Mount Mat Cinchang. The Langkawi sky bridge is at least 2,300 above sea level and the ride starts at the Oriental Village found in the upper Northwest of Langkawi Island. You can also enjoy shopping for souvenirs in shops found near the cable car. Opening hours start at 10am and it closes at 8pm.
- Dataran Lang or the Eagle Square
Dataran Lang or also called the Eagle Square is one of the most famous man-made attraction in Langkawi. A large eagle sculpture will be found on the front ready to greet visitors. This island is just one ferry away, and is located at the southeast corner of Pulau Langkawi, just beside the bay of Kuah. The place is filled with wonderful miniature fountains, terrace and bridges. The ideal time to visit this place is early in the morning or late in the evening when the heat is on a low. Dataran Lang is open 24 hours a day.
- Langkawi Cable Car
To see the best scenic spots in Langkawi, you would have to ride the Langkawi Cable Car. It takes you to the 2nd highest point, which is Mount Mat Cincang. Once you are on the cable car, you will experience the temperature dropping and a windy breeze flowing through the cabin of the car. The car stops at the first 600 meters, which is the first station where you can either embark or continue with the ride. The last station provides more excitement because it is where you can do your shopping and eating. Cable operating hours are from 10am to 8pm.
- Underwater world
Another pride of Langkawi is the Underwater World which is nearly 6 acres big. It is situated at the southern end of Pantai Cenang beside the Zon Duty-free Shop. It is considered as Malaysia’s largest aquarium. This aquarium holds 200 types of marine species and freshwater fish which include sharks, sting rays, seals and more. It is also the home of the largest Amazonian freshwater fish in the world – the Arapaima, found at the entrance.
The venue is divided into three main sections: Tropical Rainforest, Sub-Antartic and Temperate. The most popular section is the Sub-Antartic which houses the rockhopper penguins. The site also includes educational resource center and cafeteria with 3D theater. Underwater World operates between 930am until 630 pm Monday to Friday and is open on Sundays from 930am to 1030 pm.
